LibreSprite
- LibreSprite is an open source and free program for the creation and animation of your game sprites. It streamlines a lot of the more complicated aspects of larger programs such as Gimp or Photoshop in favor of a focus on pixel based artwork. It started as a development fork of Aseprite but went the direction of of staying free and open source when Aesprite shifted to a proprietary license to be sold through platforms such as Steam and itch.io. Both programs are quite similar in terms of look and function so it is easy to transition between them. LibreSprite specializes in 2D sprite work and it excels in this by offering easy color/palette management, layering, and animation. In addition, it is much easier to learn than larger programs making it ideal for both newcomers as well as experts.
