While last year marked the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series, today marks the day when Zelda made it's US debut in the form of the now legendary gold cartridge originally released August 22, 1988. This is because in Japan, Zelda was a yellow floppy disc game for the Famicom Disk Drive, an add-on to the Japanese Nintendo, The Famicom or "Family Computer". It wasn't until the US release that the series would get the classic gold cartridge and battery backup feature that meant you wouldn't have to complete the epic in one sitting, something that was very different for US NES owners. Personally, this was the game that set me on my path with video games and to this day, I find myself playing this amazing game every couple months in one form or another.
