Treon's Metroidvania Game Of The Week - Insidia

The Metroidvania sub genre of action adventure games contains some of my all time favorite video games and I tend to go out of my way to discover and experience new games in this style. It is an under utilized type of game that gives some much needed depth to the traditional side scrolling games like Mario or Sonic. Thankfully, it seems that some indie developers have noticed this as well and new games are being developed with some even playable within your web browser regardless of your OS. This is perfect for the console/handheld gamer looking for a quick fix on Windows, Mac or Linux.

This brings us to one of the more fleshed out free games in this category, Insidia. The story involves a traveler who crash lands on a dark alien planet and must find 10 ship parts to repair his craft. Despite the fact that the game is browser based, it still manages to feature an impressive number of conventions from the Metroidvania genre. Ability power ups, a mapping system, hidden areas and even multiple endings are all featured and make the game a blast to explore. An impressively moody soundtrack and slick visuals round out the package. If you're a fan of this type of game, I recommend giving it a try. Enjoy!
